Proud Mama

Patience has never been one of my strong attributes. I hate to wait, on anything. I have always been a very fast paced kind of person. I know what I have to do, I do it, and I move on to the next thing. Simple as that. But the truth is it isn't always about how fast you can get something done, but that you work hard and do your best and give it time and good things will come. And I definitely see good things coming together every day, more and more for Sophia. It seems like just recently I've noticed a lot of little things that she's been doing that have made me stop and think, "Wow, she just did that all by herself and knew what she was doing." Like putting blocks into a bucket or even fitting them into the appropriate shape cut out. Or taking a puzzle apart and then helping put it back together. Or when we go to clean up, I'll ask her to help me put the cars away and I will show her how I put the car away and then give her a car and ask her to put it away and she does it, just like she saw me do it. I've also noticed her responding more to certian things I say, like if I ask her to get the ball and throw it to me. She'll scoot that little bottom over to the ball and get it then fling it my way. She's banging things together, and could clap her hands if she wanted to, but obviously that isn't high on the priority list right now :) She'll also sit in her room, in front of her bookcase, and just pull a book out, open it, look at it and then toss it aside and move on to another book. Just looking at the pictures and seeming to take it all in. I couldn't be more proud of her than I am right now. I've waited for so long to see her play with purpose and to use toys and objects appropriately and she's finally starting to do it! She's not speaking, or signing, but I know that she understands us and she is very good at responding to us, in her own way. She's also not eating yet, but she is definitely making good steps in the right direction. She has a good handful of foods that she will munch on willingly and we continue to introduce new foods, flavors and textures and let her explore with the whole process. She's moving in the right direction, I see that, but nonetheless it still gets very discouraging and frustrating some days. But most of all I am so proud to have such an amazing daughter that is teaching ME a great thing, to have more patience. To take one day at a time and focus on all the things that are good and that are happening in our world right now and not to worry or dwell on the things that I wish we were doing or that I think we should be doing. Everything will come and fall into place, in time.

Bucket List

So I was over on another blog reading about what people would like to do before they kick the bucket. It got me thinking about all the things I've always wanted to do with my life, so I decided to write down my own bucket list of things that I haven't accomplished yet, but would love to do before I die. In no particular order:

1. Get into the best shape of my life.

2. Take a cooking class

3. Take our girls to Disney World.

4. Go on a fabulous vacation with just my husband.

5. Learn to play the guitar or drums.

6. Learn to ride a motorcycle.

7. Have another baby.

8. Serve Thanksgiving dinner at a homeless shelter with my kids.

9. Become a strong advocate for individuals with Down syndrome.

10 Raise a lot of money for a special cause.

11 Go skydiving

12 Complete a 1/2 marathon or a triathlon

13 Take a road trip across the country

14 Buy our dream home

15 Give my kids a tradition to remember always.

16 Take a nature trip with the family; camping, hiking, fishing.....

17 Get another tattoo.

18 Learn to sew.

19 Get front row seats to an amazing concert.

20 Be able to dance like no one is watching and sing like no one is listening. Have the confidence to just let loose and be me, no matter who is around.

21 Plan for my children's future.

22. Go on an all girls vacation.

What's on your Bucket List?

Mix and Match

To Indy and Back

Jayden, Sophia and I went to Indy today for two appointments, Developmental Peds and Pulmonary. It was an extremely long day, but the girls did AWESOME! and I was so happy with both of them. Jayden completely amazes me sometimes. She can be such a crab one day and then the next day she is the most helpful and well behaved little angel! She reminds me a lot of someone else........

We got some good news from both doctors today. Sophia's weight to height seems to be just about right for the time being. We are going to continue with what we're doing right now and get her weight and height checked monthly here in Terre Haute and then see by that if we need to adjust her feedings at all. She has been doing extremely well, both during the day and her night feeds, at keeping her feedings down (not spitting up.) I am beyond excited about this, but a part of me is just waiting for the storm to hit, again. It really seems like it's to good to be true, but I sure hope that this is a permanent turning point! Also, as of right now, there isn't really a need to see pulmonary anymore, unless a problem arises. So we will have another sleep study done this summer and see how the results of that are and then go from there. If things look good, and we don't have any concerns, then we will continue with an annual sleep study and leave it at that. A part of me would much rather go see pulmonary every month than do one sleep study a year, they are HORRIBLE, but it is good news, so we'll take it.
